Osoyoos, BC

Situated just north of the United States border, Osoyoos boasts the Okanagan's earliest growing season. Stock up on fresh apricots, cherries, peaches, pears, and plums from July to September, as you make your way past the fruit stands that dot the roads. No matter where you are headed, fresh Osoyoos fruit adds pizzazz to your trip!

Home to Canada's only arid desert, Osoyoos allows plenty of opportunities to view rare animals, plants, birds, and insects. Stroll along the 2 km (1.2 mi.) of boardwalk at the Osoyoos Desert Centre to learn more about the Sonora Desert, which spans down through Oregon and Arizona as far south as Mexico. Keep your eyes open for endangered burrowing owls, tiger salamanders, and badgers, and learn about what the Desert Centre is doing to help conserve this antelope brush ecosystem for these and other animals in similar danger of losing their habitat. Then cool off with a visit to one of the nearby beaches on the shores of Lake Osoyoos. With summer water temperatures hovering around 24ºC (70ºF), Canada’s warmest lake provides ample swimming, parasailing, jet skiing, and windsurfing opportunities. With three marinas stocked for all of your equipment rental needs, you'll want to stay out all day!
